About Us

  • The League of Women Voters encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
  • Through our Education Fund, we work to register voters, provide voters with nonpartisan election information, and conduct educational forums, candidate forums, and debates.
  • The League is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public.
  • The League operates at local, state and national levels.

The LWV Camden County is a 501(c)(4) organization and carries out some activities under the umbrella of the LWVNJ Education Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Established in 1920

The League of Women Voters is an outgrowth of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. It was founded in 1920 shortly before the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which finally granted women the right to vote after generations of fighting. Learn more about the history of the League from the LWVUS.

The Camden County League of Women Voters is one of 39 local Leagues in New Jersey (of which eight are "county" Leagues). It was created in 1963 by a merger of the Camden and Haddonfield Leagues.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

LWV is an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy.

There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, gender identity, ethnicity, race, native or indigenous origin, age, generation, sexual orientation, culture, religion, belief system, marital status, parental status, socioeconomic status, language, accent, ability status, mental health, educational level or background, geography, nationality, work style, work experience, job role function, thinking style, personality type, physical appearance, political perspective or affiliation and/or any other characteristic that can be identified as recognizing or illustrating diversity.

LWVNJ and LWVUS

Our local League is connected to a network of thousands of members through the League of Women Voters New Jersey and the League of Women Voters US. LWVNJ provides us with powerful lobbying strength in Trenton on issues of importance to voter rights and access, and supports our activities with materials, training, and more. LWVUS creates national programs and materials to be used by state and local Leagues, and gives us a unified voice.

Affiliated Groups and Partners

The League partners with groups who share our positions on issues. We only work with organizations who share our nonpartisan values. If you are interested in collaborating on a project in alignment with the League's mission, please contact us. Past collaborations include:
  • ACLU NJ: Among other projects, the LWVNJ and the ACLU work closely together in monitoring elections
  • American Association of University Women: The LWVCC works closely with the AAUW, especially in our Running & Winning program.
  • Delta Sigma Theta: The LWVCC works closely with the local alumnae chapter of this nationwide sorority.
  • Anti-Poverty Network of NJ: The LWVNJ is an organizational member of this anti-poverty organization.
  • Delaware Valley Association of Rail Passengers: Working for improved mass transit in the region, long a League concern.
  • United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia: The League is a strong UN supporter. The LWVCC was a member of the UNA-GP at one time.
